Central Nerve.
Nova73 HD replaces Radio Dalian's previous central routing matrix.
A master control room (MCR) is the heart of any radio station, and is of prime importance to the overall broadcasting operation. Connections from all the audio and communication lines within the facility converge here, and the MCR establishes all links between studios, edit suites and the broadcast signal processing; external production facilities and other production houses can be linked via satellite or an optical fibre network.
At Radio Dalian, based in the Liaoning province of China, when the previous technology was no more capable of coping with increased demands, and because of a call for future-oriented technology, the radio station decided to invest in Lawo technology. Infomedia Digital Technology Co. Ltd, Lawo’s partner who deals especially with radio customers, was appointed as the main contractor for the complete project.
The new MCR routing system, a Lawo Nova73 HD, can be controlled by a superordinate control system, including scheduler, an Infomedia development. This complete integration of the Nova73 HD and an external control system is only possible because Lawo uses an open and flexible protocol, known as Remote MNOPL. Now Radio Dalian’s MCR commands over 288 inputs and outputs (AES, MADI and analogue interfaces) via several DALLIS frames.
This project started in January 2009; by April 2009 the technical upgrade of Radio Dalian’s master control room was completed on schedule. The reasons behind the decision to install a Lawo Nova73 router, according to the Technical Directors of Infomedia and Radio Dalian, were its superb reliability, flexibility, performance and quality, just to mention the most important! Lawo’s exceptional worldwide reputation had also positively influenced the decision.
