TV-Unit's HDTV OB truck Ü3 accompanied the "Selección" to the EURO Cup.
Spain's technical skills excelled on the football pitch, Lawo’s mc²90 console in the HD Ü3.
During the EURO 2008, the HD Ü3, 16,5 m flagship of TV Unit’s OB van fleet, broadcast not only the opening match in Basel but also all six football matches in which Spain’s national team participated. The coverage of the matches and the additional programmes around this event were produced on behalf of Plazamedia, Ismaning, for the Spanish customer Canal+ cuatro with its platform Sogecable.
In their audio control room, using the mc²90, Lawo’s currently largest console, the HD Ü3 crew created an individual 5.1 mix, based on the UEFA 5.1 mix plus two stereo mixes.
On site, TV-Unit installed the technology for a pitch view studio, a pitch presenter position, a mixed zone position, a flash reporter position, a coach arrival position as well as a VIP interview position. Each of these positions was fitted with at least one camera as well as two microphones and two independent return lines. Beside the signals provided by the UEFA the HD Ü3 delivered the pictures of nine of its own cameras.
Even for productions of this scale the TV-Unit OB van is always prepared. Thus it was no problem at all to deploy the truck during the EURO 2008 shortly after the broadcast of the Women’s UEFA Cup final in Frankfurt/Main. Therefore, everything ran smoothly on site – during the opening match in Basel and the following matches in Innsbruck, Salzburg and Vienna including the big final.
By virtue of the flexible structure of the TV-Unit HD Ü3 it was easy work and with the Lawo console the crew established top sound quality. The Spanish sound engineer was completely enthusiastic: although not having been familiar with the Lawo mc²90 before he was able to work independently with the console after a brief training.
